A doubling in kids with severe flu

Howdy. I lost at Trench’s trivia night yesterday. We have another quick one today. I feel like we’re making up for last week’s epics.

Prince George has a new mayor and a veteran council that are working decently well together. Kamloops is providing an example of how it can go wrong.

Here’s today’s news:

• Prince George will be one of a dozen “hubs” across B.C. where the province will be deploying teams of prosecutors, parole officers and police targeting repeat violent offenders. “In all, it aims to have 21 Crown counsel and 21 support staff in place by the end of this month with two of those Crown counsel based in Prince George.”

• Crews responded to a fire at Moccasin Flats Tuesday but again reiterating — it’s the fact people are sleeping in tents and need warmth that causes the fires, not the existence of camps.

• 49 kids had to be transported from northern B.C. to southern hospitals to be treated for flu over December and January, double the amount a year prior.

• Five years after he disappeared, the mother of Colten Fleury is still hoping he can be found.

• Northern Health has issued a toxic drug alert following an increase in overdoses in the city.

• New project tracking birds and bats in the region.

• “Squabble over scrapped sawmill equipment lands in court.”

• The Blackwater Gold Mine southwest of the city is projected to produce 381,000 ounces of gold annualy which, based on current prices, is about $7.5 million.

• Another Flair Air cancellation complaint.

• Happy anniversary to the Prince George Coliseum.

• March 21-27 is “UNHBC Prince George Traditional Drummers Week” in the city.
