Between a moose and a snowy place
And a subway-style map of transit options for northern B.C.
Quick one today. Let’s start with a very Prince George traffic jam, which came up on my Facebook feed from Sharla-Rae Olsen:

With all the talk recently around transit options in northern B.C. (including a guest spot from me on B.C. Today) I’m reminded that five years ago a UVic student came up with a pretty good idea: Designing a London Underground-style map showcasing the various options for getting to and around northern B.C.:

Stepney started collecting route information from BC Ferries, Via Rail and B.C. Bus North, the transit service launched by the province after Greyhound pulled out of northern B.C. earlier this year. He then colour-coded it in a style based on the iconic design used to guide passengers through the subway system in London, England.
Honestly, this is still a great idea. One of the complicating factors since Greyhound left is it’s a real piecemeal set of options: B.C. Bus North goes northwest and northeast but not south, VIA Rail goes east and west, and there’s really not communication between them. Keeping an up-to-date timetable/graphic like this would be a good project for Tourism Northern B.C. or some other similar entity, imo.
Also: Here’s an on-the-radio reunion between the two contestants who got a ride at the Prince George Costco, and the guy who gave them a ride. It’s delightfully chaotic.
