The search for Jim Raddish

And laser tag is back

does anyone remember Jim Raddish (spelling may be different) from the Children’s Festivals in the early ‘90s down at Fort George Park? And does anyone remember the song that he always sang??? It’s driving me crazy

For those who weren’t or didn’t have kids here in the 90s, Jim Radish was a local children’s entertainer who also did segments on CKPG during Saturday mornings, between cartoons — just those quick little throws where he’d be at some local event or spotot and talk to kids and sing a song. The one being remembered in this post, and in the comments, went something like “Hooray, hooray, what a wonderful day” and it would end with “I’ve come from such a long way let me hear you say hooray.”

I have, off-and-on, tried to find any evidence of Jim Raddish online. It’s pretty wild that there’s isn’t a single YouTube upload anywhere of him. He’s mentioned a handful of times in the newspaper archives, but no pictures. In my mind he was a mainstay of Saturday morning cartoons but I’ve learned that what seemed like a long-running program to me, at that age, may have actually been only on for a year or two so I have no idea how long it lasted. Anyways, nothing really to say on this except I hope, somehow, this Reddit thread leads to someone digging up an old VHS with him on it and uploading it online. If you remember Jim Raddish you can comment there, or comment here!

Laser tag is back, baby

Speaking of the ‘90s, I went with some friends to the new laser tag place this weekend. It was a good time. We had kids with us and they had no idea what laser tag was going into this, so I’m glad they and other children of this generation will get to experience it.

It’s gonna be short newsletters this week because I’m trying to move into holiday mode and I imagine many of you are, too. I’m still working but the week headed into Christmas is not usually the most news-heavy of times.
